988 is the number for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the United States.

988 is a direct line to trained crisis counselors who can listen, offer support, and connect you with resources. It’s available by phone call, text message, or online chat. 988 is Free and confidential; your name and information are not shared. It’s for anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts, mental health concerns, substance abuse issues, or any other emotional distress. And it’s also helpful for those concerned about a loved one who may be struggling.
